a new beginning
time to turn past regrets into a guide for the future.

dear jennet,
(read carefully, and perform accordingly, when ready to thrive)

Find reasons to celebrate, daily. Make up reasons when reality's selection runs dry. Weed out all those songs on your ipod that make shuffle seem less appealing. Stop hesitating. Do things because you want to, habit shall not own you. Less movie theatres and restaurants. More talking and real bonding. Do not hold your emotions back. Laugh. Cry. Bake. Remember who you used to be. Trust the things that used to make you happy to still make you happy today. Read. Collect things. Fall asleep to your favorite, the Plant That Ate Dirty Socks audiotape. Less television and laptop monitor. More windowpanes, more skies. Make lists daily - you know it helps you de-stress and collect yourself. Be mindful that prideful defiance gets you nowhere. Chase dreams. But feel content and blessed for the present. Let friends know how much they mean to you. Less ice cream. More frozen yogurt. Trust your intuition about people. Do not trust your directional 'intuition'. Stop looking at your other tabs while you're writing this, FOCUS. Don't even try to stop being clumsy. But at least try to minimize your injuries. Foreign languages don't have to stay so foreign. Always refocus, reflect, remember what your senses were made to love. The feeling of a warm shoulder. The smell of freshly ironed clothes. The sound of graphite on paper. Stop being a kid only when you choose to. Remember how the simple things made your day. Leap across the cracks in the pavement. Link the oil bubbles in your soup with a chopstick to form one gigantic oil bubble. Tiptoe along the sidewalk curb, transforming into a gymnast atop a perilous balance beam. Keep standards up, but expectations low. Less walking in shopping malls. More walking underneath the stars. Less fighting. More singing. Stop telling yourself you are too old to learn this or that. Seriously, stop. Go ahead-Dance. Sing. Explore more instruments. Be more careful with your heart. But be not ashamed of what you already love. Be strong.
Repeat.
